Marilyn Merrill - Watercolor

Artist: Marilyn J. Merrill , MJM Originals
Medium: Watercolor

Artist Bio:

A lifelong resident of upstate N.Y., my husband and I moved to Corvallis in Oct, 2018 to be near our daughter in Monmouth.

I was born and raised in Potsdam and Hannawa Falls N.Y. The natural beauty of this area - Adirondack Mt., numerous lakes and rivers, is what inspired me at an early age. A neighbor of ours, Robert Plumb, was a well known watercolor painter of Adirondack scenes. I was fascinated! I tradedbabysitting for a few painting lessons. I dreamed of becoming an artist. However, when it came time for college, I chose music, majoring in viola and piano. Later, (42 yrs later!) remembering those painting lessons, I decided to try watercolor.

I began painting in 2001, mostly landscapes depicting the Adirondack Mt., streams and rivers in ourarea. In the past few years, as I have gained experience, knowledge and technical ability through classes and workshops, my subject matter has expanded to include still life, buildings, pets, and people. My paintings are done from photo I have taken, or from sketches done on site. Creating a painting, I experience the same mood or feeling that I had when originally viewing the scene, and hope that this is also conveyed to the viewer of the painting.
